Privacy Policy

The short version. Hank-e is a dating app for adults, so some of what you share is sensitive: your orientation, your role and your kinks. We use it to show you good matches and keep the community safe. We don't sell it, we don't use it for advertising, and you can delete your account from inside the app at any time.

1. Who we are

Hank-e ("Hank-e", "we", "us") runs the Hank-e mobile app and the website at hankeapp.com. This policy covers both. Questions go to support@hankeapp.com.

Hank-e is currently in an early test (alpha). Some features described in the app may change as we learn from testers.

2. What we collect

WhatDetails
AccountEmail address and password, or your Google account details if you sign in with Google.

ActivityLikes, matches, blocks, reports, when you were last online, and whether messages have been read.
MessagesYour messages, stored encrypted. See Messages and notifications for what isn't encrypted.
DeviceA push notification token, your app version and your phone's platform (iOS or Android).
FeedbackAnything you send us through the in-app feedback form, with the screen you sent it from.
WaitlistIf you join the waitlist on our website: your email, the city you give us and your phone type.
SupportWhat you write when you email us.

We don't use advertising trackers or analytics SDKs in the app or on this website.

3. Sensitive information

Your orientation, your role and your kinks reveal things about your sex life and sexuality. The law in many places treats this as sensitive information, and so do we. You choose whether to add it, you can change or remove it at any time, and by adding it you agree to us using it for the purposes in this policy: showing your profile to other members and matching you with people who fit.

We don't use sensitive information to infer anything else about you, and we never sell it or share it for advertising.

4. How we use it

5. What other members see

Other members can see your profile card: your username, age, photos, bio, role, kinks, the other profile details you fill in, and whether you were recently online. The app never shows other members your email address, your last name, your date of birth or your exact location.

Anything you send in a message can be saved or screenshotted by the person you send it to. Only share what you're comfortable with.

6. Who we share it with

We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for targeted advertising. We share it only with the service providers we need to run Hank-e, who may use it only to provide their service to us:

ProviderWhat they do for us
SupabaseHosts our database, sign-in, file storage and server functions, in the United States.
GoogleGoogle Sign-In, if you use it. Google Cloud Vision screens photos for explicit content when you upload them. Firebase Cloud Messaging delivers push notifications.
AppleDelivers push notifications to iPhones and distributes the app.
CloudflareHosts this website and stores the waitlist.
SlackOur team gets in-app feedback in a private Slack channel.

We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect someone from serious harm, or as part of a sale or merger of Hank-e. If that happens, this policy will still apply to your information.

7. Messages and notifications

Messages are encrypted on your phone before they're sent, so the full text is stored on our servers in encrypted form.

What isn't encrypted today: to show a preview in push notifications, we store the first 50 characters of each message unencrypted, and that preview passes through Google and Apple's notification services on the way to the other person's phone.

We're working on removing these previews. We'll update this policy when we do.

8. How long we keep it

Backups may hold deleted information for a short time before it's overwritten.

9. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live (for example California, Colorado, Virginia, the UK or the EU), you may have additional rights, such as to object to or limit certain uses of your information, or to complain to a data protection regulator. Email us to use them. We won't treat you differently for using your rights.

10. Security

We use encryption in transit, encrypted message storage, access controls on our database, and screening for uploaded photos. We're continuing to tighten these controls during the alpha. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't promise that information will never be accessed without permission. If something goes wrong, we'll tell affected members as the law requires.

11. Adults only

Hank-e is only for people 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you think someone under 18 is using Hank-e, report them in the app or email support@hankeapp.com and we'll remove the account.

12. Changes and contact

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app or by email before the change takes effect. The date at the top shows the latest version.
